and as we're sure you know, there's very little money to be made from publishing and/or from selling books as a poet/writer. Royalties are low. You really won't make enough money to live off. Honestly. Unless you are JK Rowling. But we know there is an immense value in publishing work that seeks to protest, challenge, confound, confront and to raise issues, debunk generally held stereotypes, make unseen/unheard voices visible/heard etc. This is more likely to be achieved when sold at an affordable price.
We found this recent interview with Isabel Waidner over at our amigos, Minor Literature(s) inspiring.
Like Waidner, Dostoyevsky Wannabe and others, we make positive links between nonprofit & literary worth, as opposed to predominant values of financial return/profit/monetary worth.
The Prote(s)xt imprint aims to publish marginalised poets/writers who, for example, identify as working-class, &/or B.A.M.E. &/or gender-fluid &/or disabled by society who's work is radical, experimental & anti-systems of oppression, intersectional, across form(s) & across discipline(s).
D.I.Y.
We sell at cost price.
We are nonprofit: we don't pay ourselves. We do it for free.
All Prote(s)xt books share the same cover art & layout throughout 2018.
We publish via whichever the best suited print-on-demand provider works best for each book/project.
We are currently open for submissions. More details here
